How many hobbies can you support at one time? I can barely maintain 2, but occasionally I’ve been stuck with up to 4 taking my money and time all at once. After that happens, I usually end up with a few things I can no longer stand to do at all.

Less than I think I can. I’ve always joked that if I wanted a cheaper hobby than cars or anime, I’d take up cocaine.
Or, in a similar vein, I’ve told my family they don’t have to worry about me getting hooked on drugs or alcohol, as cars and anime take up all my money, so I don’t have any to spend on such things.

For me, two. Cars and weightlifting. If I start to get into a third (or fourth) I end up moving away from one of the first two.

It depends on the hobby. I can do some for hours at a time and just chill out while doing them, but others take time, dedication and effort beyond my means sometimes.
I make chainmail bits for costumes or jewerly, I can do that sitting in front of my Computer watching movies or playing a turn based game. Or I can make candles for summoning demons in my kitchen while doing laundry. I’ve gotten into making leather craft, but this requires alot more attention to detail I sometimes find myself lacking.
However, I also bike, jog, used to box/MMA, and goto the gym. Sometimes I just prefer to sit at the pub with a Guinness.
Really depends...but I have Megacon soon, so I need to finish some costume bits.

My 3 hobbies of cars, music, and beer take up most of my spare money, but I try to minimize my cost of living otherwise. If I had a wife and kids, I’d probably cut down on the cars and beer.

I can handle several, if given time to indulge them. That’s the hard part, between work and fatherhood there isn’t any time.

I don’t have nearly enough time for all my hobbies. Right now I am actively learning guitar, working on my miata and dakota, playing with/fixing my RC car, mountain biking, biking to work, going to the gym 4 days a week, motorcycles, trying to learn how to unicycle (sort of haha this one is tough), I keep a planted fish tank, computer games, fly my kite, and I like to go camping. Oh, and I read novels... A LOT.
Things I do sometimes but have fallen off recently but I think I’ll start again soon: Hang gliding, wood working, cooking and baking, juggling, beer brewing (really need to start this one again, it takes so little time!), gardening.
Oh, and I REALLY want to learn how to weld! And my mom bought me this Arduino I want to play with.
So to answer your question, I think layering your hobbies is really important. The problems arise when you pick hobbies that conflict with each other instead of building on each other. For instance, I stopped hang gliding because mountain biking takes up that same free time. But a great layering was biking to work. Not only am I unaffected by traffic, but instead of driving home and THEN going for a two hour ride, now I ride nearly every day and don’t feel the need to go on a ride when I get home. SO pick things like a weekend hobby, a sitting in front of the TV hobby, a “garage” hobby. Making things for your other hobbies becomes two hobbies that dip into the same money pot!
And always remember: Specialization is for insects.

I’m into way too many hobbies and sub-hobbies, to the point I end up dropping some for years and picking them up later. I used to support up to three hobbies at the same time even. Now I support one main hobby at a time, while doing others for at most 10 minutes a day total.
For example, in January I revived my retrogaming collecting hobby. Now I’m only one Game Boy Camera away from having them all, boxed and everything and with a matching Game Boy Pocket. Haven’t got nor researched anything about collecting since (if anyone happens to have a golden Camera I’d really appreciate it). Then in February I got into overall enjoying my money in silly experiences, including going to Rio de Janeiro of all places to attend to a concert. Weird that we adults rarely to never do things like that, despite thinking of those all the time in high school. On March I got into self improvement. While my teeth and hair are now gorgeous, I don’t have the dedication to keep on focusing on that as my main hobby. I will maintain the things gained though, which take five to 10 minutes a day. On April and May the main hobby has been so far buying, assembling, optimizing and enjoying the high end gaming PC I got. Hadn’t done it in over a decade, so the leap was huge. Graphics are amazing, but there`s more things to life than doing one thing, especially when said hobby can make my head hurt sometimes due to technical difficulties. It’s taken two months so far because I was very busy improving the office as well. June’s hobby should be booking hotels and making a list of things to do for the trip to Japan that I’ll do in October (October will be the month of the traveling hobby), and so on until I die. Well, or until I have kids and are forced to have only one month with a main hobby, which is what people call vacations.

Depends on what you define as a hobby. Definitely helps if said hobby is free and doesn’t have any sort of commitments to others. I play ultimate Frisbee about 3 days a week but I never have to go unless I want to since it is pickup. I hike most weekends, which again is free and at my own pace. Then the hobbies that take actual money are autox and skiing. Those are of course specific to summer or winter accordingly. I think one hobby that costs serious money at a time and an unlimited amount of minimal/no cost things going on at your leisure otherwise. More than one serious time/money sync will become more of a chore than enjoyment, which you really don’t want a hobby to become!

Two of my hobbies are now jobs on the side, so I devote a lot less time to them than I would if I was choosing them for fun. All other hobbies are overruled by whatever needs fixed most urgently on the house or car. Cheapest, easiest hobby is reading, which is easy to find time for when I’m flying a lot for work.

I dabble in too many things to be really call anything other than cars a hobby I can handle (Cars are manageable because I have a car I can rely on and one to work on). It’s probably a form of ADD. :/
Running, mountain biking, road biking, hiking, kayaking, photography, painting/illustration and skiing are all thing I enjoy and have spent money on equipment for and I’m probably forgetting something.
